03. Giving Back

“Your playing small does not serve the world.” Marianne Willamson

As I recently wrote in a school assignment where I used a real-life situation as an example, I’ve decided to be less than humble about causes I support from now on. I used to think one should always donate to causes anonymously for fear of seeming disingenuous, but I don’t feel that’s true anymore.

While I still think overtly boasting about charity work is tasteless, it makes more sense to share details about institutions I support as a means to bring more attention to causes I care about. It also filters out people who disagree with something I support and refuse to entertain a different point of view.

I use this space to highlight some of the organizations and causes I stumble upon on my own or through my network. You’ll find initiatives surrounding health, education, art, human rights, the African diaspora, entrepreneurship, & more. I’ve done my research, but please do your own research prior to deciding to support any one of them. I’m not here to give advice, just to share the good that people are doing.

Philanthropy isn’t limited to money either; time, expertise, or just spreading the word are all valuable. Please use this as inspiration to seek out the good happening in the world, and support when and however you can.
